| Tim Chilina grew up in a sleepy suburb of Tacoma, Washington. After obtaining a B.S. in Chemistry from Oregon State University in 1991, he moved to Portland, Oregon. His love of the Pacific Northwest and the well established glass community that embodies it, lead him to settle in Portland and call it his home. He still lives in Portland and is a working glass artist. He recently accomplished his dream of having his own hot glass blowing studio in his own home. Chilina’s experiences, desire for innovation, and aesthetic guide his creative process. With relatively little formal education in the arts, Tim has relied on observation, experimentation, and persistence to acquire new skills and to facilitate the evolution of his work. A background in chemistry has proven invaluable in understanding and influencing the physical nature and behavior of glass. |
